ENGLISH AND COMMUNICATION -02

This course aims to develop students’ ability to use standard English structures to express themselves clearly, precisely and fluently in speech and writing and to evaluate that ability in themselves and their peers. It is designed to alert students to the process used in oral and written communication. The course also focuses on providing students with opportunities to produce different types of communication while selecting and combining forms, media, channels, and technologies to maximize effective communication.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

HIGH SCHOOL LEAVERS:
Applicants must have passes in at least four (4) subjects at the GCE Ordinary Level or CXC General Proficiency in English Language, Mathematics (or a Mathematical subject) and any other three (3) subjects.

CHANGE OF CAREER & JOB EXPERIENCE:
Twenty-five (25) yeas of age have passes in GCE/CXC/CSEC Mathematics and English Language or a Mathematical subject.

The Associate Degree in Business Administration provides a unique opportunity to combine a practical education in Business with disciplines in Industrial Relations and Psychology.  A part-time or full-time option is available.  The programme consists of 900 contact hours.  Each term lasts for four (4) months and the time allocation for each course is 45 hours.  Applicants re required passing all modules in the programme, every instrument of evaluation must be completed at the specified tine. A 75% attendance at classes as well as appropriate conduct and appearance is expected of each student.  The programme must be completed within five years.

The Classes in Insurance Business certificate courses offer specialization in the different classes of business and is designed for insurance and personnel from the wider business sector who are interested in being licensed as Sales Representative in the general insurance industry.

The Certified Loss AdjustingThis course is designed for persons already practicing loss adjusting and/or persons interested in making a career change.  Emphasis is placed on observational, communication skills and analyzing information. This course is accommodated jointly with the CIPS and Jamaican German Automotive School Academy (JAGAS) where certification is awarded by National Council on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NCTVET).

The Certificate in Paralegal course introduces the study of law and the legal system. The course places emphasis on the role of the paralegal, professional ethics, critical thinking, legal reasoning and analysis and provides the opportunities to apply these skills.

The Certificate in Motor Insurance Investigation The Certificate in motor investigation course utilizes the basic concepts of allowing participants to properly and completely investigate and record the information necessary to evaluate collisions. The course will incorporate current methods and terminology to determine the cause of collisions.

The Certified Insurance Technician is a one-year part-time programme (CIT) designed specifically for persons with a desire to advance to the Associateship of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII). Candidates will receive credits from the CIT courses to participate in the ACII programme. The courses will incorporate lectures and foster interaction between students and experts in different fields. The course provides insurance personnel with skills critical to the leadership and management of the insurance industry.

Introduction to Insurance

This course is designed to allow for a broad knowledge of general insurance, the history of insurance, general insurance classes, developments in insurance, basic legal aspects of insurance and the laws governing the operations of Companies, Agents and Brokers. Introduction to Insurance forms part of the entry requirements to all certificate courses.

This course is one of two prerequisites for the Certificate in Insurance Studies.  The course is designed to allow an understanding and awareness of the basic principles of law and their development
